Kitchen Rebirth

Kitchen Rebirth

Hi everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted on the blog but I’m now finally back at it. We’ve been traveling off and on this past fall, as well as having visitors and I’ve been working close to full time at my job these past few weeks (its busiest season). Between that and the holidays, I didn’t find myself with much in the way of spare time and alas the blog suffered. But I’m back and rest assured, the work continued…

There’s been a lot happening inside the house. This is the stage where you can see real progress almost daily. Now that the two of us are working inside together on an area, we’re making great strides! Well, that and the purchase of a nail gun has sped things up tremendously!

We knew we needed one but had delayed buying one up until now. With all of the trim work we’re now doing, it was finally the time! And wow, I mean we all know how fast these things are but when you’ve recently put up the same trim and wainscoting by hand with a nail and hammer, and then begin using the nail gun to attach the trim and panel right next to it. WOW! It’s the best thing since sliced bread, as they say… 😉

The back hallway and the kitchen. I’ll simply show a few pics of the before and after for everyone. This design and build has ALL been done by Paul. What a craftsman! The talent he has as an artist is incredible. I’m on wainscoting duty and I put up about 50% of the trim in the kitchen and did the wainscoting and all the trim in the entry way. The house is changing and being reborn…

THE HALLWAY – As it was before, through its stages and now. We still need to paint it and we plan on hanging wallpaper inside the shadow trim above the wainscoting. Looks a tad different, doesn’t it? We joke that it looks like it belongs inside the house now! lol.

THE ENTRY:

And THE KITCHEN: Still very much a work in progress but it’s changed so much! And trust us, we have a plan for the blue. It’ll work! Hang with us on this one…

You can see how much work has been going on and although it still has a way to go, we can see it’s really taking shape!

Oh and before I forget, had to share a couple of quick pics of the Christmas tree. This home has always been such a beauty but when you add the glitz of a sparkling tree with lights, it’s perfection! I hope everyone had a wonderful Merry Christmas!

And final note, the house survived the arctic bomb cyclone! The radiators cranked but they did it! The house was fine and all replaced water lines held! The sub zero temperatures we got this past weekend were a true test of the house and the work we’d done so far for that and what a test, but the house passed, I’m happy to report!

As long as we have single pane windows, cold windows will be an issue (we have thoughts on that before next season –and don’t worry, the windows will not be touched. We’re thinking of something else on the inside 🙂 Thank you everyone for being so patient! Progress continues…
