The Front Door That Keeps on Giving
After we saw how beautiful the glass was in the old door, I began to look more closely at these doors. As you know, the house is a blend of Neo-classical and Victorian architectural elements. The Victorian side of things has details upon details. So upon further inspection of the door, we noticed even the INSIDE of the hinges (what a guest would see when the door is swung open) has a pattern on it. Seriously. See below…
Once the years of paint are removed, along with the rust, can you imagine?
I also decided to look again at the black mail receptacle in the door. I didn’t think this house would have had black, so…a little rubbing and elbow grease later and I began to see a sparkle.
A few minutes later….
The door hardware appears to be either brass or copper. I will be working on those soon and will keep you posted. For now, here are the pics of the mail receptacle brought back!

Awesome work!
What did you say to clean that with?
Old fashiined Brasso. Smells like gasoline…lol. Made me think of Dad who cleaned everything with gas. I wouldnt be surprised if that’s the main ingredient. Lol. It worked!
Oh cool looks like the front door will be beautiful. I so admire what you are doing and WHERE you are doing it. You guys have balls, just thing how proud you will be when it is all done. What in the world will you do with your time?? lol
Somehow there is ALWAYS something to do.
Love you guys.
Ahh…Thank you! I’ve thought the same thing, lol. Whatever will we do when it’s done? Two things come to mind: fishing and there will probably always be something to do at the house. Lol. Love you!
This is so pretty. All the work done. All the new- old furniture. Again, I don’t know how you do it. Big balls, both of you
I love and miss you, all 4 of you. LOL
