Cellar Walls, Basements, Rain and Sanity
Even with the rainy days, we ultimately had a few clear ones to make headway on a few projects and found ways to keep our selves sane.
With the heavy rain, came a wet cellar. For those of who don’t know, our cellar is quite large but only part of it is cement, while the other part has a dirt floor. We’ve done some reading on this and found this is actually not a bad thing for various reasons and can be a good thing, so we’re leaving this part as is, at least for now. In the meantime, it does make walking around down there in the wet clay a bit messy.
Paul is working still on repairing the collapsed steps from the cellar to the outside as well as the doors.
To the left is a snapshot of our current cellar stairs, sort of. lol
We’re hoping with no more rains this week, we can get those installed. These are just layed down, not formally installed. But we’re getting close!
I also finished painting the right side collapsing cellar wall. Yay! This the one with the leaning bricks, as you recall. You can see below a before and after.
This next part was completely not on the project plan but, we saw our friendly neighbors working on their yard and as the sun was out, we decided to do a quick trimming of one of our hedges.
These are the types of things you do to keep yourself sane. The pattern, at least for us, seems to be develop a project plan, buy materials, begin the work, 3 days later you need a diversion, even for an hour to break up any monotonous jobs. Some jobs give you quick results and those are really fun. Others, although the end result when you have it is tremendous, during the process you have to break it up a bit. The yard work was our “break the monotony and trim a hedge” moment. All you see below on the ground was undergrowth tangled up into this shrub. Better, right?
