Cellar Access!

Cellar Access!

Hi everyone. We never ended up making a post last week because we were very close to finishing a couple of big projects, so we held out wanting to instead, show you the finished result. We are there now!

Our first relatively big projects, were the cellar doors and entrance. A big kudos to Paul on this! We knew this was something we needed to do but the true significance of this is that the boiler and hot water heaters, as well as the main nervous system to the house are located in the cellar. We couldn’t replace anything major or even bring service people to work down there until there was clear and SAFE cellar access. And since we need to have a new boiler installed for there to be heat in that house, the house technically wasn’t livable until and if we could fix the cellar outside access. Note: we have access through the house into the cellar but the large appliances would be a nightmare trying to navigate the stairs down from that direction and below low hung pipes.

Originally from the outside, as you may recall you would need to open the rotted cellar doors with rusty nails exposed, then either slide down or jump about 7 feet to reach the bottom (the prior steps had long since rotted away). We obviously didn’t feel right asking plumbers to get a running start before going into the cellar, lol. Check out the results. Amazing work from Paul, right?

Tada! (makes me almost want to use the cellar doors to go into the house from now on, they are so nice. lol)
