Here We Are and I Can’t Believe It’s Almost Christmas
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a few weeks but time seems to fly these days as we’ve had a lot going on with meetings, contractors and family visits. It’s all good stuff!
The season’s growing colder and throughout we’ve been continuing to work on the house each day. Some times we accomplish a lot, sometimes a little as we learn both what works and what doesn’t work (don’t ask how many times we’ve tried to fix one of the roof leaks. lol). It’s all part of the process and the trick is to keep our sense of humor about it all.
As many of you know neither of us have lived in a home this old, but we have each lived in homes that had some of these features (lathe and plaster walls, etc…). Between what experience we did have and research we’re doing, I’d say we’re doing pretty well…and we are enjoying it immensely and still consider ourselves lucky to have his opportunity.
Most of the work these past several weeks has been working with a heating and cooling company as they order materials and on our side, we worked towards getting the radiators ready. We’ve been feeling a bit “in between” several times during this process because although we had the contractors throughout, timing was an issue since we had to order parts (for this plumbing fixture, for that radiator valve, flange, etc….). The contractors ordered some and we ordered the others. We have 22 radiators or varying sizes and we needed to go to 4 sources for all of the necessary equipment. Each one shipping, then shipping delays, then some delivering the wrong parts, parts sent back, parts reshipped, etc… You see how the last few weeks have gone. LOL. But we are not wanting for things to do around the house in the meantime.
We’ve had our first light snow of the season and seeing the Christmas lights around town inspired us. Regardless of the peeling paint, the cracks in the plaster, the unfinished floors etal, it’s still Christmas time, right?
A few images from around town…
So the tree went up! We didn’t full decorate but we had to at least do a little. And I’d say it’s helping, wouldn’t you? By the way, the holly below on the stair rail is fresh and came from a big beautiful holly tree we have in our back yard. We started this adventure in July of this year and it’s been an amazing journey. In a way, it’s still hard to believe it’s only been 5 months. We’ve felt so welcomed into this town that it feels like we’ve been here longer.
Our heart felt thanks and Christmas wishes to everyone here in Lewisburg and the beautiful wild and wonderful state of West Virginia!
