Sash Windows – Complete

Sash Windows – Complete

Do you remember our “test wall?” This was the first one we completed from top to bottom, trying to find the best process and ultimately what it would look like.

I’m sure you noticed that it’s missing one very important piece: the window.

Trust me, it was on our minds. We had been working on the window for awhile (removing the glass, stripping the paint, reinstalling the glass, glazing it, painting the old window again). We did this in between other projects and had finally finished the window but we were letting the glaze dry a bit, and find a warm sunny day to tackle something new and not have another emergency jump up and ask for attention first.

BTW we’ve joked that we really don’t need to have a plan when we go to work on the house. We just show up and let the house “tell” us what it needs worked on that day. Usually this is by way of us getting there, turning on things, and then looking at each other and asking “is that water dripping I hear?” or “is that board starting to pull away and lean a bit more?” So you see how it goes. The best laid plans turn into “well, what do you need us to work on today?” LOL. This project manager (i.e. the house) keeps us busy! But the payoff is well. 😉

But we finally did it. The window is a double hang sash window with long 8lb weights. We all know how these types of windows and their mechanism works but it was still fun and our first time to hang one ourselves. Since on the inside, the facing boards had been removed around the window casing, so it was easy access.

A few pictures to show everyone. For everyone following along at home, you may check the box “complete” now on the Test Wall. LOL

It’s DONE!!
