Foundation Brick Repair & Painting continued…

Foundation Brick Repair & Painting continued…

This week we began moving along a lot more visually from the street view. Although we were working steadily this whole time, much of what we’ve done has been behind the house or inside.

We continued our painting on the front foundation, this time on the right side of the steps. This is quite a process as it required us fixing or replacing the loose mortar in many spots and addressing the boards around the bricks, then 2 coats of primer and finally 2 coats of paint.

But we’ve finished the right side and the small brick pier support.

Both side of the front brick foundation have now been painted light gray

You can barely see the top of the bay window (I’ll make another post to better highlight it) where Paul has worked to replace the roof and much of the trim, as well as begun painting it. We expect to remove the scaffolding later this week and when we do, you’ll really be able to see his hard work and amazing attention to detail!

Below again is an original BEFORE shot for a quick reference. She’s starting to show a glimpse of the home she was and will be again!

I next moved to the left side of the house and began removing overgrowth and vines from the wall and then repairing the loose and missing mortar on that side.

I think I’m actually getting pretty good at this!

Left Side – after mortar repair

You can see what the overgrowth and original side of the cellar door wall looked like before I began. Once I cleared the overgrowth and removed the loose bricks, however…

I was left with this:

I’ve begun working on repair it, finding bricks that will fit, chiseling and cutting any bricks that need to be cut to fit the space and reapplying morter. I didn’t completely finish it, but am close! Will post the finished results next week (wish me luck!)
