Wallpaper Has Begun

Hi everyone. A quick update on yesterday. We bought wallpaper quite awhile back with the vision in mind but haven’t been ready to hang it.

Yesterday, with the bathroom finally completed, it was time. We have several rolls and patterns for around the house as these old home used a lot of wallpaper. Since we did not tear down all of the walls to studs and replace it all with drywall, the old walls are far from perfect. You can walk past them and they look fine enough but upon close inspection and you can see either small cracks in the plaster or even for those areas I’ve repaired, the whole wall is not plum or completely flat. Considering the history of the home, and how the old wallpaper was used a lot because of the plaster and we want to be in keeping, we searched for wallpaper that would fit.

For ex, in the kitchen, most of those walls are new from our demo and redo. Those walls are fine with paint and done. However the oldest part of the kitchen still has the original walls, the taller ceilings (for heat to rise) and they do have some imperfections. We’ve repaired the plaster but you can still run your hand and feel the wall “swim” a bit, lol. There we decided was a perfect place to hang wallpaper.

Here is a pattern which we found in the stairwell leading up to the attic/4th floor. Isn’t it gorgeous! It was a common style of the period, with lots of scrolls. BTW, it’s actually in good shape so this old paper stays on that stairwell.

And here is what I found under 3 layers of wallpaper in the entry way. You can barely see it but there again, are scrolls and fleur delis.

Here is what we found about a year ago and ordered new. It was in a book that had replicas of a lot of the old styles and it’s even on a textured roughly “old style” surface paper so it helps to hide the imperfections I mentioned. The tones are perfect. Plus having it in the oldest part of the kitchen with the taller ceilings fits!

Here it is in the kitchen.
